October 2025.
The Family Protection Plan is a group life insurance product provided by CMutual and underwritten by Maiden Life FörsÀkrings AB. It provides a cash benefit to help families after the death of a covered member. Although many people have chosen to use the benefit to help with funeral costs, it is not a funeral plan.
Right Way Credit Union has been informed by CMutual and the insurerâs underwriter, Maiden Life FörsĂ€krings AB, that the underwriter is withdrawing from the European market. As a result, the Family Protection Plan will end on the 30th of November 2025. This decision was made by the insurer and is not within the control of Right Way Credit Union. The same change is affecting credit unions and their members across the UK.
No, this change affects a small number of Right Way Credit Union members who currently hold a Family Protection Plan. All members affected have been contacted directly in writing.
If you havenât received a letter from us, you are not affected.
Â
No, they are completely different products. Our Loan Protection and Life Savings (LPLS) cover is also provided by CMutual, but it operates separately from the Family Protection Plan.
The FPP is a paid-for family plan that could cover up to six relatives under one policy. The LPLS is an automatic member benefit linked to your savings and loans with Right Way Credit Union.
The changes to the FPP do not affect your Loan Protection or Life Savings cover. You can read more about those protections here:Â Loan Protection & Life Savings (LPLS)
Your Family Protection Plan cover will remain active until midnight on the 30th of November 2025. There are no changes to your protection until that date, and any valid claims made before then will be honoured by the insurer as normal. After that date, the policy will end, and cover will no longer apply.
We completely understand this change is upsetting, especially for members whoâve held the plan for many years. This decision was made by the insurerâs underwriter and applies to credit unions across the UK. Right Way Credit Union has made direct representations to CMutual, requesting that they reconsider their position or provide an alternative product for affected members. When it became clear that the withdrawal would proceed, we reached out to the relevant stakeholders and began engaging with local MPs to raise awareness of the issue for members. We have also requested that CMutual conduct a review of the impact on vulnerable members. While the outcome could not be changed, we remain focused on supporting members with clarity, care, and compassion.
Some reports have referred to the Family Protection Plan as a âfuneral plan.â That isnât accurate, the plan is a group life insurance policy, not a funeral cover product.
We understand that this kind of coverage can cause concern, but we want to reassure you that Right Way Credit Union has communicated directly with every member affected and will continue to provide clear, factual updates.
No. The insurerâs withdrawal does not result in any financial loss for members. Your cover continues in full until the 30th of November 2025, and all valid claims before that date will be processed in the usual way.
